About the
NHS Foundation
The
NHS Foundation was established by NHS Human Services,
Inc. (NHS) as a separate, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The
NHS Foundation is a public foundation, and is able to accept tax-deductible gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations. These gifts may be in the form of in-kind contributions, grants, planned gifts, appreciated securities.
The mission of the NHS Foundation is to secure the many NHS programs that make a difference in the lives of individuals and families daily and to support NHS' vision of innovation by funding the development and future endeavors of its behavioral health and mental retardation programs.
While government funding for human service programs dwindle, the scope and needs of NHS clients continues to grow. NHS, without hesitation, provides services to some of the most challenging and vulnerable individuals today. Where cuts in program, staffing and care are accepted as inevitable by some organizations, the NHS Foundation has been established to gain greater control over NHS' ability to serve its consumers, while maintaining and, indeed, growing critical programs.
The
NHS service system provides a full range of mental health, substance
abuse, mental retardation, juvenile justice and elder care services
and has the reputation of serving many of the most challenging
individuals who rely on the public system for treatment and support.
"One Individual At A Time" is the approach used for
each consumer served. Families are encouraged to be active participants
in their relative's treatment plan. NHS operates at over 400 program sites throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and Virginia.
