Employees and friends of NHS Allegheny Valley School were Freezin' for a Reason

On Sunday, December 11, more than 20 NHS Allegheny Valley School staff members and friends plunged into the bitter cold Allegheny River to support Special Olympics Pennsylvania. More than 200 individuals in programs across NHS/AVS compete in Special Olympics events throughout the year. Two of those athletes, Kregg and Ken, attended the event and led the crowd in the Special Olympics oath, “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.”

In its second year, the Pittsburgh Plunge had more than 1,000 plungers and raised more than $275,000! The Polar Plunge is led by numerous Law Enforcement Teams; the award for the highest earning team other than a Law Enforcement Team went to Team AVS, which raised nearly $7,000!

Thanks go to all Team AVS members and their many supporters, with special thanks to Slippery Rock Program Center Program Instructor Heather Krenn and her husband Chad, who raised the most for Team AVS!
