Technology Aids Students at NHS Autism School

With a "rocket" soaring above their heads, the students watched intently as bubbles running through a tube change colors.

"Where's red?" speech therapist Holly Gray asked, and a student pressed the red button to change the bubbles once more.

Meanwhile, other students took a "trip" on a big inflatable pillow.

"Are we going to a deserted island?" occupational therapist Shannon O'Donnell asked, bouncing on the pillow to make "waves." "What are we going to find?"

For the students at NHS Human Services Autism School in Unity, the bubbles and pillows are more than fun and games. They are key tools to help students become aware of and stimulate their senses — something many autistic children cannot do on their own.
