NHS Human Services Compliance Policies

Our Commitment to Ethical Leadership

NHS Human Services supports an ethical culture.  Every NHS employee is committed to know and comply with all laws, regulations, requirements and policies governing service delivery and care. NHS is committed to do what is proper and ethical and promises to provide quality care, respect for one another, and to do the right thing in the right way.

The mission of NHS Human Services is to provide innovative solutions to support the unique needs of the individuals we serve by striving to create a caring and responsive environment that promotes the highest standards of integrity and quaility.

What is the Compliance Program?

The Compliance Program is the collective name for all of the formal and informal activities that NHS undertakes to support and foster adherence to sound ethical and business practices. The program is directed through the Compliance Office, but compliance and ethical practices are everyone's job.  The Compliance Program is one component of NHS' ethical culture.

How does the Compliance Program work?

Every NHS employee must do the right thing by practicing sound ethics and following all applicable laws and regulations in everything we do. The Compliance Office supports this effort by establishing consistent standards, thorough training, and assessment of best practices. Employees can help by understanding the Compliance Program, knowing the legal requirements of their job, and seeking help whenever they are unsure of what or how to do something.  The most important action any of us can take is to do the right thing and ensure that everyone else does as well.

Everyone must report suspected non-compliance and unethical behaviors.  The Compliance Helpline ( 1-888-439-0100) has been established to make that easy to do and to protect anonymity.

How does NHS' Ethical Leadership affect me?

If you are a consumer of NHS services, NHS' commitment to ethics helps to assure that you are receiving the best care and that it is being delivered in the best possible way. If you are a payor or government representative, it ensures that NHS is following all requirements to provide and bill for services.

NHS recognizes that individuals seeking services are trusting that NHS will do the right thing. Our goal is to earn that trust. By completing their responsibilities in accordance with NHS standards and regulatory requirements, employees gain the confidence of consumers, regulators and payors.  The Compliance Program is one avenue that NHS uses to ensure that our culture of ethics is maintained.

What if I have questions about suspected non-compliance?

You can contact compliance by calling the NHS Compliance (bilingual) Helpline at 1-888-439-0100, by e-mail at compliance@nhsonline.org, or by facsimile at (610) 260-9635.

Can anyone call the Helpline?

The NHS Helpline is specifically established for you to report, discuss or ask questions related to issues of NHS's compliance with law, regulation, policy or other requirements. It is not a complaint line. Within that restriction, everyone is encouraged to call the Helpline, if they suspect a problem or have a compliance question. Other issues should be directed to the appropriate NHS Regional Office or the Human Resources Department.

What else should I know?

A Compliance Program is beneficial to everyone. It enhances employee morale, productivity and effectiveness. It also improves the quality of care. Our goal is to integrate compliance into daily operations in order to create a better work place and to ensure quality care.

Remember:

  • If you know it's wrong, don' t do it!
  • If you are not sure, ask.

Global Monitoring

____________________________________________________________

The newest component of NHS' culture of ethics and compliance is the Global Monitoring Process.  GMP builds upon the foundation of ethics and compliance by integrating compliance monitoring into every aspect of performance with the goals of improving quality performance and preventing compliance violations.  The Global Monitoring Process engineers quality and compliance into business and service delivery systems on the front end to reduce compliance violations on the back end and to establish documented best practices.

GMP is a "self-governance" process for service areas and administrative functions across NHS.  It enables problem identification and resolution and it makes it possible to measure performance at specific points in time, over time and across geography.
