Clinic-Based Services

Outpatient treatment includes 3 levels of service; Partial Hospital, Intensive Outpatient, and Outpatient which represent varying degrees of intensity. Outpatient services operate as a less-restrictive alternative to hospitalization or inpatient rehab treatment and take place in a clinic-based environment. All 3 levels of care, depending on assessed needs, can include individual, couples, family and group counseling, psychiatric evaluations, medication assisted treatment, psychiatric and medication evaluations and case management. After being assessed by qualified staff, clients are placed in the appropriate outpatient level of care and individualized treatment plans are developed in cooperation with individuals and their families.

  1. Partial Hospital Program (PHP)-Operating as a less-restrictive alternative to hospitalization, Partial Hospitalization services are usually offered on a daily basis at one location, for up to six hours per day.  Comprehensive services include therapy, medication monitoring, and counseling.
  2. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) involves up to 9 hours of treatment per week which is scheduled around the patient's normal daily activities. This level of care includes weekly groups and individual sessions.
  3. Regular Outpatient (OP) treatment involves up to 5 hours of treatment per month and includes weekly groups and individual sessions.

Medicated Assisted Treatment refers to the treatment of opioid addiction that includes the use of a medication (i.e. methadone or buprenorphine) approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Medicated Assisted Treatment is an adjunct treatment to the standard outpatient services (counseling, psychiatric services, case management) for those addicted to opiates.  NHS Human Services operates 4 Opioid Treatment Programs (OTP’s) which are located in Philadelphia and South Jersey.  The outpatient medicated assisted treatment programs are certified by the federal government through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), are fully licensed in the states in which they reside and are fully accredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA).
